Here are some important facts about our classroom that you might be interested in:
Lunch: The students have the choice to either buy or bring their lunch from home. There are 5 choices of hot lunch that they may choose from. Two of the choices change daily, and the other three are peanut
butter and jelly sandwich, macaroni and cheese, and pizza.
Go-home folders: The
students are provided with folders which they take home every day, with work they did in our class, homework, and notes
for you. There are two sides of the folder, titled “keep at home”
and “bring back to school.” This will help you know which papers are able to stay with you and your child and which should be returned to school.
Classroom behavior: The students are seated at tables in groups of four. Essentially each table is a team, numbered from 1 to 6. The
tables receive tally marks for good behavior, as well as can have tally marks removed for poor behavior choices. At the end of each week, we total up each table’s tally marks and whichever table has
the most points gets a small reward, such as a pencil or a piece of candy. This
method helps the students work together as a team. If one person (or all) at
a table is displaying good behavior, such as sitting and working quietly when asked, then the whole table
might get a tally mark. Likewise, if one person (or all) at the table is making
a poor choice, the whole table might lose a tally mark. This helps them work together and encourage each
other so the whole table succeeds.
